I thought I’d just “remember a few more things.” What actually happened was so much bigger. Now I wake up and instantly know what day of the week it is, without touching my phone – I used to be completely lost. When my grandkids tell their crazy, detailed stories, I follow every word and laugh right along with them instead of asking them to repeat everything. They say Grandma is more fun than they are these days. I drive at night again without that knot in my stomach, something I used to avoid at all costs after 6 p.m. I’ve stopped telling the same story three times in one visit – my daughter thanks me daily. I do the entire grocery list in my head and come home with everything I needed, not even forgetting the milk. My mood is so much brighter that my husband jokes he “got the woman he married 40 years ago back.” I sleep through the night and wake up actually wanting to get out of bed instead of dragging myself up. And the biggest thing: that quiet, constant terror that one day I’d look at my grandkids and not know who they were… it’s gone. It honestly feels like someone gave me 15 sharp, clear years back.
